The Circle of Life

 Taking care of our parents

One of the most honorable but most difficult duties of life is called “Oya-ko-ko” in Japanese, to take care of one’s parents. The value exists throughout the world but is especially strong in Asia and very much so in Japan. Being Japanese American as well as being from Hawaii where almost 70% of the population is Asian American, the concept of taking care of one’s parents is very strong and visible. My sister, Susan, and I, along with my brother-in-law, Patrick, do our best to give my Dad and Mom the best quality of life. It has been eight years since I have started this journey of taking care of my parents. I have returned to Hawaii every year for 2-3 times, spending about a month each time to help with their care. It has been extremely humbling and yet very emotional and eye opening. Your parents are tying your shoelaces when you were young and 50 years later, you are tying theirs. Hawaii people love and visit Las Vegas more than any other state in the US. They sometimes call Las Vegas the eighth island as Hawaii as seven major island. I have made a few videos about taking your aging parent(s) to Las Vegas as well as one about my tribute to my Dad and his former East Manoa Lions Club.

Taking your aging parents who may need physical help on a Vacations Hawaii Las Vegas Package can be risky for family members who decide to take them. You want to be sure you have everyone going with you to be on the same page and everyone take turns in helping out.  But final reward is not for you to have a fun and relaxing time but for your parent or parents to have that one last final trip of their lives.

This video is my summary on why we take are parents on a Vacations Hawaii Las Vegas Package, even when they are older and much more ailing.  Also what thing to be aware of when taking your parents on a trip.  It is one of the most tiring things to do for your parents but something that gives them joy, hope and reason to live.

My Dad taught me through example the model of the Lion's Club, "to serve..."  He belonged to the former East Manoa Lions Club which today is called the  Manoa Lions Club.  His generation of Lions were the true example of community support and spirit.  They are the unsung heroes who help form the Manoa Valley community, sports leagues, events, and the highest quality of life for residents.

Thank you, East Manoa Lions!
